basic dance
A duet with 2 solos
Paz Rojo created a solo and offered it to the dancer Cristian Duarte with her wish to have it translated. Two dancers entered the negotiation on the utopian moments of meeting, friendship and possibility and on the dystopian moments of lie, violence and fixation.
Basic Dance is a dialogue based on the idea of translation and an encounter that negotiates a space of proximity and change: the dancers embody a choreographic relation that repeats and adapts. What place is taken by the performer’s physical history in this process of reproduction? Basic Dance can be only materialised through a small and little violent act, but only with the deception of imagination and play, therefore - with the invitation to watch.
‘Basic Dance is well constructed, fascinating and it touches us’. Mirjam van der Pinden-Volkskrant-Sept’04
‘No decor, no passes and no steps. What there actually is is difficult to describe. But it is magic and grabs the spectator’s throat’. ‘Basic Dance’ Sander Hiskemuller- Annual Magazine of FFK-Oct’04
