it’s my ass
a solo
‘It’s my ass you’ve been thinking about’ is a solo dance performance where the body attempts to perceive its immediate presence. Persistence-quiescent-wringed-stile-possesed, the tension of one longer for the other. The over exposed activity of the body is evocative, provocative, as surveillance skins in-between a sheltered site of contemplation.A desire: A destruction of one by the other. A transformation.A set of conditions: An order to consume my own inaccessible image.A state of dance: Crashing the activity. Rudimentary movement. Movement isn’t necessarily dynamic. There is an attempt to crash its rhythm, its mechanism. Therefore the visibility of movement is revealed as a Tone-harmony, which is loaded to the spectator’s gaze.Five spots: The body is plugged in. The tension of this choreography lies on the ability to return again and again to the precise point of instability.Concept, choreography and dance: Paz RojoVideo/videostills: Danielle KwaaitaalDramaturgy: Robert SteijnMusic: ( Untitled # 89) by Francisco Lopez.Light Design: Paul de VreesComissioned by Springdance/works’01PREMIERED in Springdance Festival. For the 2003 issue, the cultural space of Valenciennes was also supporting young talents that were coming there to bloom in discoveries. The public could enjoy the enigmatic presence of Paz Rojo. The artist based in Amsterdam , but whose heart definitely stayed in Madrid , was finally, giving us a youth work which title was at the level of its quality. And what a title! The solo It’s my ass you’ve thinking about is opening on a voyeuristic look. In the cold nudity of her inconstant and useless search for balance, Paz Rojo was able to tear apart this self destructive power of a fatal, seductive and almost mischievous glance. She, burned to paroxysm by the electronic tribulations of Francisco Lopez, all the crashed bodies of Ballard and Cronenberg where meeting. Like all different ghosts. Certainly.

‘In 30 minutes she confronts the audience with a naked body that is subjectified by the trembling of her legs, trying to leap into the air from a lying position. The ass of Rojo falls and smacks against the floor, standing, slowly preparing as to run. Meditative primitive like pauses that she plays subtly with the gaze of her audience who are drawn into gradually accepting this intimacy. Dance versus anti-dance.’
